WKC 2010 British Championships
 (200x162).jpg)
We sent 3 fighters to the WKC British Championships on 28th March 2010.
George Nye entered into points fighting -40kg boys, and showed a much improved form. After a close fight, which could of gone either way, he lost by a small margin to the catagories winner in the semi finals, earning himself a bronze medal, his first ever medal!
Gurmare Singh entered into points fighting -60kg mens and had 2 fabulous fights to get himself into the final. There, his fitness suffered, and he lost by 3 points, but took a greatly desreved 2nd place.
Mark Fry entered into 3 catagories, all point fighting. -85kg mens, -85kg veterans and +85kg veterans. In ever catagory, Mark managed to get himself into the semi finals, but lost at that stage each time, in one case, by only 1 point! This secured him 3 bronzes, taking the teams tally to 5 medals for 5 events!
This means that our academy now has THREE British team members, who will be attending the World Championships, to be held in Portugal, later this year!
Competition Results WTKA English Championships

Te-Ashi-Do Karate attended the 1st WTKA English Championships in Coalville, Leicstershire on 31st January, and scooped some medals!
Fighters in attendance were George Nye (points -37kg and -40kg), Jake Clark (points -40kg), Gurmare Singh (points -60kg) and Mark Fry (points -85kg and Veterans open weight).
George Nye put up a great show in both events, especially the -40kg, and showed great skill and promise, but ultimatly was beaten in both matches by better fighters.
Jake Clark, in only his 3rd competition managed to bag a 3rd place, with a couple of tough matches. A great result.
Gurmare Singh found it hard to settle into his match, having an awkward opponent, and dispite using great footwork and speed, just couldn't get it going on the day.
Mark Fry had a dissapointing first fight in the -85kg, but managed to improve enough in the 3rd place fight-off to secure his medal.
In the Veterans open, Mark Fry dominated his opponent, winning 10-3. In the semi-final, referee desicions went against him, with many techniques not being scored, resulting in a 3 point loss. The 3rd place fight-off was a close event with both fighters deadlocked at 4-4 and having to go to sudden death to finish it, where Mark landed a wonderful backfist to secure the medal!
This means our trophy haul was 3 3rds for 6 catagories! A great result for the club, and every fighter showing some great improvements to their fighting.
A special thanks to our supporters, Sonia, Emilia and Richard Nye, Rob and Poppy Hope, who cheered on every match and helped make the trip possible!
A great start to the year and I look foward to more trophies for us all next time!
